Great Tools for Domain Name Searches
Congratulations! So you're ready to jump in and begin your own website or blog. That's awesome! Or, maybe you're ready to tackle that new project you've been secretly plotting for the last year. Either way, you're going to need a kickin' new domain name that represents you and your new site.
So, where do you start? How do you know if the name you want is even available? Where do you turn for assistance in finding that perfect, most awesome domain name?
Well, I'm glad you asked! Here are some great sites for performing domain name searches, in no particular order.
1 - Namecheap
Namecheap is our go to place for registering domains. Apart from blogging, building a domain portfolio is something to consider. Registering great domains is a sound investment for the future. Even if you don't use those domains, you can always sell them on for a profit.
2 - Domainr
Domai.nr is a great search tool. Just type in the domain name you want and it will tell you if it is available with a .com, .net, .org, .co, or .io extension. It will also show you some other options as well, which will include short links and other possible extensions. A lot of domain name searches begin and end here.
3 - Bust A Name
Bust A Name is an interesting tool in that it allows you to add certain keywords to a list and then shows all the domains that are available using various combinations of the keywords you listed. I've found a few usable domain names here.
4 - Lean Domain Search
Lean Domain Search is a fairly new domain name search tool that allows you input a keyword and it will find available domain names by matching other random keywords with the keyword you put in. I've found several great domain names here as well.
5 - GoDaddy
Sometimes it's best just to head straight over to GoDaddy and search there. Go Daddy's upside is that it provides a wide array of possible extensions for your desired domain name, so the possibilities of finding that perfect, most awesome domain name are high.
Domain Auction Sites
1 - Flippa
Flippa is a very popular place to buy and sell domains through an auction. If you're looking to buy a domain, you can bid on the name you're after. If you're selling, you can get your domain name appraised to see what other users think it's worth. You can then sell it at auction.
2 - Protrada
Another domain auction site that reminds me of watching a financial news channel because there's a ticker across the bottom of the screen showing domain prices. It's quite fun to watch.
3 - Sedo
Sedo claims to be the world's biggest marketplace for buying and selling domains. I'm not going to argue with them.
4 - DNForum
DNForum is the largest domain name community on the internet and continues to grow every day. There are over 300,000 domainers on DNForum doing everything from buying domains, selling domains, learning about domains and discussing domains.
Thank you so much for reading! I would love to hear the ways you find great domain names! Leave a comment and then share the love with a Retweet, Facebook like, Google+ share, etc.
