How to Stay Motivated During Difficult Times

Tuesday, September 11th, 2018

You want to finish a file, to learn a foreign language, to honor a deadline, etc. and you have a strong intention to go forward, but sometimes you get frustrated when you go through the smallest pitfall or surrender to the first temptation. How to resist? How to stay motivated to keep going forward? This is what I will explain below.

Everyone can have moments of disappointment, even the strongest people. That’s why it’s very important to learn how to stay motivated under any circumstances. Motivation is the fuel of your success. It will allow you to deal with all situations to become what you want to be. It is motivation which makes you set your goals and commit yourself to achievement of the same.

Lack of motivation can occur in different ways, and it is usually very difficult to find the resources to move forward at such times. Do not worry, this phenomenon can affect everyone, regardless of age, physical condition, gender, or social position. Lack of motivation is not inevitable, and you can, if you want, discover how to stay motivated under all circumstances.

Important ways to stay motivated during difficult times:

Expect a positive thing to happen to you and you will get what you expect. If you want something good to happen to you, this thing will happen. Every day look in the mirror and say “some good things will happen to me today!! “

Take control of the things you can control, and do not worry about the rest. You must understand that some things are in your control, and others are not. Things will never go perfectly, but the sooner you get past these things, the faster you’ll succeed in your projects.

Listen to positive information. If you feed on positive information all day, it will keep you motivated. Go to the library or on the internet and find a book that will give you that booster effect. You must be able to make the best of things to keep motivation!

Surround yourself with positive people as often as possible.Overly negative people will fix your mind on bad things and prevent you from focusing on your goal. Avoid these people and do not even talk to them because if you talk about your projects they will try to dissuade you from starting and cut your motivation.

Say positive things!Do not underestimate the power of words. Say positive things about any subject regardless of what is going on around you. You can write positive sentences and place them in your apartment to see them every day to stay motivated during difficult times!

Learn from your mistakes rather than repeat them.We all make mistakes; the solution is to learn from these mistakes and keep moving forward! Feel free to evaluate yourself and find out how you could act next time. Cherish and record all positive corrective steps you take to make yourself a better person!

Have a plan. There is a quote that says: “If your plan failed, it’s that your plan was to fail.” If you take the time to make a plan to reach your goal, you will know the process from beginning to end to get there. Identify the three most important points to accomplish in the next three days and start with these points to motivate yourself.

Celebrate your successes, big or small! Congratulate yourself every time you achieve one of your goals, big or small; whether it is the success of a new investment, the completion of a project or just completing one of the steps towards your goal! This little tip will be enough to increase your motivation during your projects.

Cultivate your gratitude! Our lives are filled with miraculous things. We’re not paying attention to it anymore as we take that for granted, and complain about all kinds of things. I do it myself, all the time. But when I catch myself doing that, I also remember being grateful. Life is suddenly softer. Is your job boring? You may be grateful that you have a job, a roof over your head, food every day. You might be grateful if you have friends or someone who shares your everyday life. You are alive and it is such an amazing gift.

You may be grateful for your health, if you have it. Or if you do not have a perfect health but you have your 2 legs to walk, then you can be grateful for that. If you do not have legs, maybe you have eyes to enjoy the view of a sunset. And if you do not have the view, maybe you can listen to music, and so on.

When times are tough, you might not see it all. But know that if you focus on the positive, you will always find something that will make you feel grateful.

Have compassion for yourself! Suffering is part of our experience as human beings. Whenever we feel pain and fear, we can recognize it. At the same time, we can wish for the end of this suffering. Be good with yourself. By having compassion towards ourselves, we can turn to the person next to us. We can recognize that others are suffering too and just want to be happy. Then when someone is unleashed in anger, we can recognize that this person suffers like us. This is the moment to wish him happiness and not to live in this suffering.

Live every life experience fully! Too often, we just want to have certain kind of life experiences: good things, comfortable things and enjoyable experiences. And yet, the reality is different. Life gives us much more to experiment with: anger, frustration, loneliness, grief, etc. These experiences are inevitably part of our lives. We can rebel against that, which will only add more of these experiences.

We can also accept everything in our lives by being compassionate with ourselves when things are difficult. No matter what happens, we give ourselves love and gratitude. It means accepting what is and accepting ourselves as we are. It is also the end of the illusions of a perfect life. It’s not easy, I admit. At the same time, it is this type of openness that leads to a much deeper happiness.

Know that happiness lies within us!All the pleasure, the well-being coming from others or circumstances is only temporary and will not last. When we look for happiness outside of ourselves, it leaves us in a permanent state of lack. Realizing that happiness comes first and foremost from within ourselves will make us able to access it at any moment.

What is the source of this inner happiness? I find it by doing the things that make me happy. These things could be related to the outside but in reality they are available no matter where I am. At a difficult time, if you can find happiness in you, then no matter what happens outside, you are no longer affected as before. Whether you lose your job, you get sick, you go through a divorce, you can always find that happiness independent of the circumstances. It is there if you choose to use it.
